Students in middle school have finished testing their catapults and are taking steps this week to analyze their data. Each group of students was asked to plot their distance data on a coordinate grid. As a class we reviewed the independent and dependent variables.
After students finished graphing on paper, they moved into the computer lab and each worked with the computer program Excel. A commonly used Microsoft Office product currently used in many professional jobs. Students learned how to enter a data table, create different types of charts, and calculate the mean, median and mode using Excel formulas. This program has been new to many students, but they are learning quickly and enjoying the experience.
