Coat Design

Below are pictures from the first Everest Trek design challenge, designing/building a prototype for a light weight, warm, cost effective coat for climbers. Knowledge for their designs came from two experiments where students tested nylon, fleece, wool, and denim to determine if they were good insulators.

Students also spent time calculating the cost of their prototypes. At the end of the design challenge, students will be asked to make a poster to advertise and sell their coats.

Design Criteria: layers of the coat are 2cm or less in thickness, the layers of fabric can keep a thermometer at 65 degrees or above when under ice for 30 seconds.
